We hate to break it to ya, but dinner and a movie just won't cut it this year. Eye-rollers of this holiday, fear not. We've rounded up Sydney's top selection of date ideas that'll leave you giddy with excitement. This isn't your average list; you'll find a sugar museum, a star gazing sesh and an undie fun run. Complete with where to eat, drink and play, here's this year's guide to Valentine's Day.

1. Sugar How'd You Get So Fly?

Myer, George St | 10 February to 20 May

Let you and your date's inner child roam FREE! You've probably seen this sugary wonderland plastered all over social media... but it ain't the same as experiencing it IRL. Book in an adults only night sesh here and prepare to be gobsmacked. Confetti, glowing neon signs, a pink ball pool and a giant gum ball machine are just a few of the exciting installations in store. Instagram at the ready, your sugar highs await.

Eat at... Kusuka Cafe

107-121 Quay St, Haymarket | Shop 12, 339 Sussex St
Eat & Earn 15% LVN

Not yet ready to re-enter the boring ol' world of fruit and veggies? Continue your sweet date at Kusuka Cafe! A fusion of Western and Indonesian flavours, they're 100% Instagram worthy. Apart from the usual cafe offerings (with their unique spin) and famous mi goreng bowls, their drinks are what get people talking. Lattes in a cone, colour-changing mocktails, shimmering concoctions (literally), avocado shakes and pink lattes... We're in another world.

2. Stars and Champagne

Centennial Park | 14 February 7-9pm

Hopeless romantics, this one's for you. Watch a stunning sunset on the lawns of Centennial Park with a picnic, followed by some professional stargazing. Yep, you're basically in a rom com. Pack your own picnic basket filled with your date's favourite cheese and wine, book a pre-made one from their partners at Pop-up Picnic, or choose from their selections of food carts.

After watching the bats make their nightly flight, an astronomer will take you and your date through the simplicity of stargazing. Grab one of the available telescopes and gaze into the night sky... or into each other's eyes. Tickets are only $19 and can be booked here.

Eat at... LuMi Dining

107-121 Quay St, Haymarket | Shop 12, 339 Sussex St

If you really wanna impress your date, take them to LuMi Dining. It's a casual fine dining restaurant on Pyrmont's waterfront. Daring, grand and glass-walled, LuMi fuses modern Italian dishes with a Japanese twist. The verdict? 2 Chef Hats in their name. Treat your S.O. to something a little more luxe this V-Day. We recommend the Chef's Menu for a curated dining experience. 🍷

3. I'm With Cupid

Hyde Park | 17 February 8:30am

Tight lycra, sweatbands, overeager competitiveness... running may not be everybody's cup of tea. But Cupid's Undie Run might just change that. You and your fellow participants can dress up in wacky costumes or strip down to your knickers. Choose to walk, run or boogie your way through the 1.5k course! There's even an epic dance party afterwards to celebrate the Valentine's Day weekend. You'll also nab a sweet pair of Calvin Klein undies and a Cupid tee with your registration fee. It's all for a good cause too; they're raising much needed funds for the Children’s Tumour Foundation of Australia (CTF).

Eat at... Ze Pickle

17-51 Foveaux St, Surry Hills
Eat & Earn 10% LVN

Replenish your energy with a bite and drink at Ze Pickle! Here lies the home of the naughtiest burgers your eyes ever did see – they've even got a triple stacked burger in between two grilled cheese sandwiches for two people to share... Romance ISN'T dead, people. Follow it up with one of their killer cocktails. We're getting the Kim Karpassionfruit – it's got vodka, fresh passionfruit, lemon, vanilla sizzurp and bubblegum legendade blended with ice. Sounds delicious, but we were simply sold on the name.

4. Bringing Old Skool Back

Moonlight Cinema | American Express Openair Cinema | St. George Openair Cinema | 14 February

We're taking dates back to the good old days, starting with the summertime ritual of outdoor cinemas. Sydney's got its fair share of these alternative theatres, so we've picked our faves for Valentine's Day.

American Express Outdoor Cinema

Showing... Notting Hill
This one's about... A simple bookshop owner (Hugh Grant) unexpectedly encounters a famous American actress (Julia Roberts). What follows is a whirlwind romance between two distinctly different people, whose lives are seemingly world's apart. In typical British fashion, it's packed with awkward banter and endearing moments.

Moonlight Cinema

Showing... Crazy Stupid Love
This one's about... Cal Weaver (Steve Carell) is a regular middle aged man – with a good job, a beautiful house, great children and a beautiful wife – until his life turns upside down. Enter Jacob Palmer (Ryan Gosling), a stylish and successful player who wingmans Cal.

St. George Openair Cinema

Showing... A Simple Favour
This one's about... Small-town cooking wiz and mum vlogger Stephanie (Anna Kendrick) and the super glam and semi-famous Emily (Blake Lively) forge an unlikely (martini heavy) friendship after their sons - at the same primary school - have a play date. With a demanding job, Emily ropes Stephanie into "A Simple Favour" of looking after her son - but one night, Emily just never returns. Stephanie vlogs the situation as it unfolds into something extremely unexpected and even a little Gone Girl-esque.

Eat (and play) at... i Darts Zen

Lower Ground, 259-361 Pitt St
Eat & Earn 10% LVN

The night's not over yet! Take your date to i Darts Zen and impress them with (or let them laugh at) your karaoke and dart skills. Booze and bar food are top notch here and will give you fuel you need to party 'til 1am. A little competitive spirit never hurt anyone. 😉
